Some of you may have seen my plea for help on c.s.a.hardware about my
overheating A4000.
I have a warp engine 040, 20 megs mem, PAR, Kitchen Sync, Picasso, ethernet
card, CD-rom, gigabyte drive (mounted in the rear) and Conner 540 meg for the
par, squashed in that third height space below the floppy drive.
The machine gets so hot you can't touch any part of the metal chassis
after 15 minutes. I have to run it with the case off and a small desk
fan pointing at it, until I make a permanent solution.
(my machine needs to run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year)
Someone said a good idea is to mount another fan on the back of the 4000
on the outake vent, to help the fan in the power supply suck air out.
Another said to remove the CD-Rom drive and put a fan in that 5 1/4 bay.
I will probably do one or both, and several other things, when I have time
to attend to it. An overwhelming amount of people said to put all the guts
in a PC tower case. I need to keep my system portable to take it to work
to dump animations, so I want to avoid doing that, as well as putting drives
in external cases.
anyways, just relaying my experiences, and wishing they had made a 2000-style
AGA machine with lots of slots and space (sure the 4000T, which is a rare
bird)
